52 Week Six Word Story Challenge! - Week 44#SixWordStories has teamed up with #theWrittenRevolution to present to the literature community a project that will question what it really means to be a writer. Although all of these challenges are in the six word story form, there is nothing to say that you can't apply them to different kinds of literature too!
:la: We encourage everyone to take part! :la: Even if you are not a writer, that is totally fine! If you can string six words together into a story and follow some rules, then you are very welcome to join us and you don't even have to participate every week either!
Each week, a challenge is set with the results of the previous week featured in a news article. This is what the community has come up with for last week's six word story challenge:

Imagine a new fertile green continent is found out in the middle of the pacific. Imagine no country owns it. Imagine how many people would up and leave for it tomorrow, simply to regain freedom from governments and taxes. To live off the fat of the land. To know the fruits of their own labor. To live in peace and quiet. To cross it end to end and discover its hidden secrets. Unfortunately, the entire Earth's been mapped and we know there's nothing else out there. So if we want to be adventurers and explorers and visit uncharted lands, we have to count on the magical novelists who build these fresh worlds for us. Because the truth is....unless you have a rocket ship, reading is the only escape from the world we currently live in.    
  
Critmas: results!Critique is something we all desire- its why most people are on dA. We want feedback on our work- some of us just to validate ourselves, others for improvement tips and others who are aiming for move their work on and want genuine suggestions to assist with that.
That is quite a demanding request.
Fortunately, there are people out there who do take their time to look at work, take the time to review, respond and offer this critique. And writing a critique is time consuming, even more so when you’re writing several. Sometimes I think that people forget that, which is why Critmas has a message not just about giving critique out for prizes, but to thank those who do offer that free time to help others with their work. 
We can often be quite selfish, expecting critique from others but aren’t willing to give back. Even if you took the time to challenge yourself and write one a week, you will reap the benefits.
Anyhow enough of the lecture; let’s see the results!

Even more of you are, like us, feeling near-fatally neglected by the muses who have been showering their grace on prosehounds and keeping their distance from verse (or so they would have had you believe). A Hunt For Literature (with 2400 Points)The new year is upon us, and what better way to start 2013 than by discovering new literature?
The Challenge
During the week of Jan 7, #CRLiterature will be hosting a literature scavenger hunt. A scavenger hunt is typically defined as a game played in an extensive outdoor area, in which participants have to collect a number of miscellaneous objects. Our scavenger hunt will be played in the Literature gallery here on deviantART and will have deviants searching high and low for literature deviations that match the items on the list for the hunt. Have I mentioned there's a total of 60 deviations to be found (20 poetry, 20 Prose, 5 Script, and 15 general items)?

A Letter To My Younger Self ContestAs the year begins to draw to a close,  I'm keen to spark the inspiration and creativity that I sparked last year when the 'Letters To Me' contest was launched for a second time. Therefore I'm delighted to announce that for yet another year #Letters-To-Myself is launching again. Please read the following rules and regs carefully.
A Letter To My Younger Self

The idea is that you write a letter to your younger self - thinking about what you would say, what you wouldn't say. But as always with these contests, we're not just looking at the theme. There are prizes for creativity, inspiration, community choice and humour. I did mine a few years ago, and I have done a revisit since, and it does work. So if you entered before this contest and want to write again - please do. Just make sure your entries are fresh and new.

Why did you start writing?
At eight or nine, I started receiving ‘constructive criticism’ on my drawings. I didn’t want constructive criticism on my drawings; I wanted blind adoration, effusive praise, and a place of honor and glory on the fridge.
Come to think of it, I still want all of those. Perhaps replace ‘on the fridge’ with ‘in the canon’ and add in ‘critical respect.’ We could also replace 'on the fridge' or ‘in the canon’ with ‘on a throne and in the hearts of millions.’
How do you think you've progressed over time in your writing?
I used to write doggerel, almost exclusively in rhyming quartets, and usually about love. I usually come down with horrible stomach pains when I read it now.

What is a Swan Song?

"Swan song" is a metaphorical phrase for a final gesture, effort, or performance given just before death or retirement. The phrase refers to an ancient belief that the Mute Swan is completely silent during its lifetime until the moment just before death, when it sings one beautiful song.

Thus, ~FourLinePoems was born! It's a group that's completely open to everyone and anyone who would like to join and the exciting news is that, with its launch, we are announcing the first Four Line Poem Competition!

National Novel Writing Month is an annual internet-based creative writing project which challenges participants to write 50,000 words of a new novel between November 1 and November 30. The official site is here. It is "the ultimate write-a-thon." Also there is a chatroom on dAmn that supports NaNoWriMo around the clock for all of November, #NaNoWriMo. They have word wars where you continuously write for a period of time and you can also keep track with others on deviantART participating in NaNoWriMo. It's an excellent tool for managing word count too!

This is a massive project that in 1999 when started with only  21 participants, now last year over 200,000 people took part - writing a total of over 2.8 billion words. Seeing how this challenge is ever growing, Community Projects would like to announce that NaNoWriMo will get it's own gallery:

Community Projects > Projects & Clubs > NaNoWriMo > 2011




And as we announce this new gallery for the submissions of everything NaNoWriMo, we would like to offer any passionate writer with a novel idea to a contest.

Hook us in to your novel by creating a novel synopsis of no more than 500 words.



We are looking for eye-catching and thought provoking ideas, excellent sentence structures, a hook to draw us in, proper grammar (when appropriate), and usage.  The contest will end at the end of the last day in November 12:00AM EST.
